There is a disparity in the representation of Indigenous peoples in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields in Canada. As educators, we have the ability to foster a sustained passion in these subject areas from a young age. Through a combination of STEM educational resources, land-based learning and community collaboration, our educational programs provide students with opportunities to strengthen their leadership skills and environmental science knowledge, primarily through student-led, environmental restoration/conservation projects. This presentation will explore our approach to experiential project-based learning, community integration and STEM education.
